Harnessing the Power of Dark Chocolate: Flavanoids and Antioxidants

Let us begin with the star ingredient – dark chocolate. Beyond its rich flavor, dark chocolate holds a wealth of flavonoids and antioxidants, acting as catalysts for well-being within our bodies. Flavonoids, in particular, assist in enhancing blood circulation, reducing blood pressure, and manifesting as formidable antioxidants that combat harmful free radicals. Together, they embody a profound contribution to our health, adding a beneficial layer to this indulgence. I just knew it was good for me!

Bananas: Nature’s Nutrient-Rich Treasure

Now, turning our attention to the banana, we find a treasure trove of essential nutrients. Bananas, with their generous offering of vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber, become an integral part of this nutritious ensemble. They support our energy levels, aid in digestion, and contribute to cardiovascular well-being. Paired with the dark chocolate, they harmonize the taste and nutritional profile, elevating the overall appeal of this delectable treat.

It is still that, a treat. But I way prefer a treat that I don’t have to rip open from a package.  As often as you can, choose minimally processed foods. If you love this combination of chocolate, banana and peanut butter as much as I do, be sure to try our Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins too!

Now, let’s dive into our Banana Peanut Butter Chocolate Bark.

Prep Time 5 minutes
Freeze time 1 hour
Servings 12 pieces

Ingredients

  • 2 large bananas, sliced
  • 2/3 cup all natural runny peanut or almond butter
  • 1 cup dark chocolate
  • 1 tsp coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup chopped peanuts You could also top with almonds slices, cacao nibs, or toasted coconut
  • sprinkle sea salt

Instructions

  1. Lay a piece of parchment paper onto a cookie sheet.

  2. Thinly slice your 2 bananas and arrange them on the sheet so that they are all touching.

  3. Pour over your peanut butter. You can always warm up the peanut butter slightly to make it more runny.

  4. Place into the freezer for 30-60 minutes or until partially frozen.

  5. Meanwhile, melt together the dark chocolate with the coconut oil.

  6. Spread chocolate in a thin layer over banana and peanut butter mixture. You'll have to work quickly as it will harden fast. Immediately sprinkle chopped peanuts over top. Sprinkle with sea salt if desired.

  7. Place back in freezer until it's all frozen.

  8. Remove from freezer and take parchment out of the baking sheet. Gently loosen the bark from the parchment. With a large knife, slice into 12 pieces.

  9. Store in freezer.
