Six years ago I decided to go for a Saturday afternoon bike ride with my daughter Piper. The day was phenomenal! A perfect 28 degrees, not a cloud in the sky, ice cream by the beach and no complaining from the daughter for our 2 hour jaunt. You know those days when all the stars align and you wish you could just bottle it?
This day was that for me and as I was struck by that thought I turned to her and said, “This day is so amazing, everything is just as it should be, but sadly we probably won’t remember it.” The day was simple, no trip, event or pictures to make it memorable, but I WANTED to remember that moment forever!
It’s funny because since I said that, Piper chirps up ever year, usually when we go for another bike ride and says, “Remember that day you said I wouldn’t remember? I remember all of it!” And then we relive the day and enjoy the good memories.
I saw a little project circulating on facebook the other day about remembering special times. The mom had a large empty jar with the words MOMENTS written on the front. She encouraged her family members to take a minute to take a piece of paper and write down wonderful moments that happened to them that they wanted to remember and stick it in the jar.
I love that idea! I wish I had that when my kids were younger but I’m going to start it now. Afterall….
” The best things in life are not things, they are moments.”
